При попытке инсталляции командой
gem install mysql
выпадает ошибка

Лечится установкой MySQL ( http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/mysql/5.1.html#macosx-dmg ) и последующей командой
env ARCHFLAGS="-arch x86_64" gem install mysql -- --with-mysql-config=/usr/local/mysql/bin/mysql_config or gem istall mysql or gem install mysql -- --with-mysql-dir=/usr/local/mysql
